Model Question Paper for Electrical Departmental Examination of Group B Officer of Indian Railways
I observed that there is a request for model question papers to help candidates appearing for Class II selection of Electrical Department of Indian Railways. There are four streams from which questions are set and Model questions of all streams has been prepared to help candidates to test themselves through model examination. Before you intend to look at the model question bank, there are certain guidelines which one should follow and prepare himself for attempting model examination. These are as follows:
Before attempting to look at the model question bank, one should understand its relevance:
- Model question paper will not help if you read for a fun or mental evaluation of whether you can attend the question or not.
- Prepare yourself for appearing in the model examination to test your competency to succeed
- Attempt only when you are ready to sit for three hours with comfortable table/chair, glass of water, pen, pencil and scale.
- Seek help of family members to create an environment of examination hall
- Remember it is not your knowledge but how you can write on the answer book to convince copy evaluator that your know the answer fully.
- Remember that you need minimum 60 marks to pass the paper and around 75 marks to make sure your selection. You will not succeed even if you leave 20% of the question paper.
- For this, you should ensure attempting all question totalling 100 marks.
- Time management is very important. If you have to attempt 5 questions means 36 minutes/question.
- Model examination will help you to find how much of the each question you can write in 36 minutes. Learn the technique of reducing the content to accommodate within 36 minutes.
- Don’t attempt more than maximum to be attempted
- You will get disheartened while attempting the first model examination but your confidence will improve with successive model examination.
- If you have read the above instructions and ready to follow then only attempt the model examination.
- You have to register yourself and request for model question paper. When you press ‘new’, you will get new model question paper different to what has already been downloaded by you.
Understanding Paper composition:
Vide Indian Railway Establishment Manual Chapter No. 204/2, no syllabus is prescribed for Group B examination for technical streams like electrical, mechanical, Civil, Signal and Telecommunication. It is stated that the paper shall be practical oriented. There is no definition what makes a paper to be classified as practical oriented. The preparation for the examination becomes difficult when no syllabus is prescribed. Beside this every department is having many streams (as given below) whereas his working is limited to one stream only. That makes competition further difficult. Therefore, preparation for the examination has to be more focussed to attend in an intelligent manner. When it is tough for the candidate, it is equally difficult for the paper setter because
- There goes ample of preparation for conducting the examination and the question paper shall have reasonable standard to qualify minimum 50% more than the vacancies.
- If more number of candidates qualifies, the bottom those who does not qualify will have a heart burn
- If less number of candidates qualifies, there remain vacancies which the paper setter is always concerned.
- Therefore understanding this, you will get a reasonable number of questions to answer to get qualifying marks. The examination paper will never be so difficult that it may appear at first go. It is just simple preparation with focus that matters.
Setting your own Syllabus for the examination of AEE:
SSE/JE of electrical cadre shall have knowledge in the Technical of Railways in all stream, General Awareness, Simple Mathematics, Basic principle of Engineering, Establishment/Stores/Finance and Works Code. This makes the syllabus very wide and difficult for any one to adhere. Therefore, one shall prepare his own syllabus on which work. A guide on the subjects to develop confidence to appear for the model examination namely
- Technical Subjects: There are basically 4 streams for AEE examination and it may be difficult for him to possess knowledge in all the stream when he has spent most of his time in one or at the most in two streams. Choose minimum three from the 4 streams so that you get reasonable choice to answer adequate number of questions to secure minimum 60% marks. The four streams are (a) Technical Subjects like (a) Electrical Locomotive, Electrical Multiple Unit and Electrical Operation (b) Traction Distribution (c) Train Lighting and Air Conditioning (d) Electrical General Services
- General awareness: There is no limit to the questions in this category. But one can certainly lay down the limit based on his understanding and capacity. One should read Simple general knowledge book and last six months of general knowledge magazine. Examiner generally avoids fill in the blank or one line answer because it may be difficult to evaluate based on model answer. Therefore, multiple choice questions are preferred and will be easy to answer based on your study with little remembrance. Therefore one should prepare himself to answer multiple choice question for which reading a book/magazine two three times keeps you aware to answer the question. One should read on Cities, River, Capital. Personalities, Books, Popular Films, Awards, Railway –Ministers/ Zonal HQ/PSUs/Important Statistics for IR yearbook
- Simple mathematics of Class X standard: One should go through the simple mathematics of Class X standard along with Arithmetic of Class VIII standard involving questions on profit and loss, Principle and Interest, Area/Volume etc)
- Simple technical numerical problems of Diploma standard:
- Rajbhasha: One should always prepare for this subject even though it is an optional. The advantage is that syllabus is much less with limited questions and one can prepare well to score good marks.
- Establishment, Finance, Stores and Works: The questions on these subjects are mostly practical and those which matters during day to day work. It is generally observed that in most of the cases the candidates are having more knowledge on the subject then is required and he spends more time in writing all that he knows. This is not correct. The answer shall be in phase with the marks assigned to it and time of not more than 6 minutes per 10 marks question.

Thank you sir, for your valuable direction.I have gone through the syllabus of APO Exam repeatedly aand also collected 3 questionpapers of last exams from my collegues. But the pattern of question does not match directly with syllabus. As a new candidate how can I evaluate my answers? and how can I collect more sample questions? Rest Ishall try hard for success.
Pattern of question will never match, therefore, if you intending to prepare as per the trend of examination paper, you will not succeed. Setting a paper and its evaluation is the key to success where your mind will work in the most productive and in multi-direction. When you check your own copy as a examiner, you understand how a mistake is committed and to be taken care of. While writing mock drill paper, you train your self towards the time management of three hours, content optimization to get full marks, speed management of writing, paragraphing. Begin your journey and will learn to evaluate the answer copy of yours also.

You will not be able to find departmental solved paper on any of the website. During your training in Railways, you must have collected notes and books. Make use of the same.
valuable information
Sir,
Please provide model question papers for mechanical department
Thank you
I don’t have any model question paper. What I have suggested is to make your own question paper and think you are the examiner. Make 5 such question papers. Attempt these question papers in a examination like environment after three months. This is the best and sure shot way to succeed. Check you much marks you score as per evaluation. If you score more than 75% in both the papers, there are fare chances of selection.
