Get ready to prepare for SSE/JE RRB Competitive Examination
Advertisement for the competitive examination by different RRB to fill up Senior Section Engineer and Junior Engineer in different Railways is out on date 20th Sept. 2014. The examination will be held on 14th Dec. 2014 for Junior Engineer and 21st Dec. 2014 for Senior Section Engineer. Degree in Engineering is the minimum education qualification for SSE and also make you eligible for Junior Engineer whereas Diploma for Junior Engineer. This is one of the best job option for Diploma Holders and not so for Degree holder, but OK if you are struggling to find suitable job in Government organisation.
Guidance for Preparation for SSE
There are large many vacancies Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineers of the order of 1700 spread all over RRB/Railways but major demand is over Northeast Frontier Railway for which the examination is being conducted by RRB/Guwahati. You may be finding difficulty in understanding the job profile of the designations mentioned in the advertisement, if so, click at Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Metallurgical. The question paper will have 150 objective type questions covering the following area
- General Science and Technical Ability: 90 Marks
- General Awareness: 20 Marks
- Arithmetic: 20 Marks
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: 20 Marks
Now the course is very wide and you have to prepare in just three months. You will be looking for some guide-book/joining a crash course but will it help. I suggest you the following
- Open your class XI and XII science books. Go through the content carefully making simple notes. This will take care of about 10 marks
- Open your Engineering notes (if you have prepared any) or otherwise a simple text-book which you have followed and also did marking while preparing and studying the content for the engineering examinations. This is a step to refresh yourself, and refreshing will be difficult if you follow different book. This will take care of about 80 marks. You should be careful that there is one examination paper for all streams of engineering mentioned by the side of the category as per notification and one has to get himself fresh up in all branches. You study some aspects of all branches of engineering in 1st and 2nd year of engineering, and it should help. If you have not studied all branches or having doubt, better make a group of friends of different streams and help each other.
- Study material and objective type questions for mock drill on few subjects has been compiled to help you in preparing for the examination.
- Open your 6th to 8th class Mathematics book and go through chapter on Arithmetic, Algebra, trigonometry etc. and attempt minimum 6-8 questions ion each chapter. Event though it is mentioned arithmatic, but don’t be surprised to get questions of IX-XII class. Therefore, it is advised to glance through XI-XII mathematics for SSE and IX-X mathematics for JE. This will take care of 20 marks
- Collect last 10-12 issues of Competitive Success or similar magazine and read the content for General Awareness and General Intelligence and Reasoning. You have to train your mind to attend General Intelligence and reasoning questions. The questions are always simple if you can crack the logical link. This will take care 40 marks.
- Plan at least 5 mock test during the period. Set the rules of the mock trial on lines similar to what you face during the real examination. You should tune yourself with the environment essential for the examination because at least you should not mark the answer wrong even when you know it.
You should target about 120 marks in mock drill for sure shot success in regular examination. There is negative marking and for every wrong answer, 1/3 mark will be deducted. The questions where you know at least the two answers which are not correct, it is better to attempt between the balance two answers even if there is a negative marking.

There may not be any difference of the nature of marks as that in SSE examination.

There is no coaching center exclusively for rrb-sse examination. e You may join any institute for general knowledge, general studies, general science and mathematics. You should go through your first two years of your engineering course. In fact you will find on this website how to succeed rrb examination tips.

There is no fixed policy is in this regard and it keeps on changing. You have to wait for the advertisement when it is out. However, you can appear in both the examination and look for examination centre of different RRBs in the advertisement.

Can I download the study material for sse from any website?
There is no website which provides study material in a format for meeting the requirement of a particular examination. Don’t you have the study material what you have studied during your engg. and if you prepare it well, then it should be sufficient.
