The Answer Key:
Sr No Question Answer Remarks 1 Matter exists in how many states? 4 Matter exists in four state namely solid, liquid, gas and plasma. But you should be careful that as per Class IX standard book, it is in three states. 2 Air is a solution of gases such as oxygen, nitrogen etc. called homogeneous mixture Solution is a homogeneous mixture of two matters irrespective of the state in which it exists irrespective of the fact that the mixture shall have the same property of any part taken from the solution. 4 How is atomic mass unit defined? equal to 1/12th of the mass of one atom of Carbon-12 5 Elements in the periodical table is defined based on the the number of protons Protons are positively charged and balanced due to negatively charged electrons. All chemical properties of the atom will depend on the balance of positive and negative charge. 6 Where do the lipids constituting the cell membrane get synthesized? SER The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a large network of membrane-bound tubes and sheets. It looks like long tubules or round or oblong bags (vesicles). The ER membrane is similar in structure to the plasma embrane. There are two types of ER– rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) and smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER). RER looks rough under a microscope because it has particles called ribosomes attached to its surface. The ribosomes, which are present in all active cells, are the sites of protein manufacture. The manufactured proteins are then sent to various places in the cell depending on need, using the ER. The SER helps in the manufacture of fat molecules, or lipids, important for cell function. 7 The function of stomata in plants is to gas exchange Stomata is a tiny opening or pore that is used for gas exchange. They are mostly found on the under-surface of plant leaves. Air enters the plant through these openings. The carbon dioxide is used in photosynthesis. 8 A wooden block lying on the table is pulled by a spring balance as shown in the diagram. The reading in the spring balance at the point of just start is directly proportional to the product of weight and coefficient of friction Tension just at start is equal to the product of coefficient of friction and weight of the block. 9 Why the road at curvatures are slightly lifted on one side? for countering the centrifugal force being experienced by the body On curvatures, the body will experience a centrifugal force outwardly. The roads are raised at one end due to which a component of weight acts inward and compensates the outward force and thus the body remains steady 10 A constant force F is applied on a body of mass 5 Kg for 2 seconds on an object and its velocity increases from 3 m/sec to 5 m/sec. What is the value of Force F? 5 N F=M(v-u)/t=5*2/2=5N 11 Law of conservation is not applicable in the case of velocity 12 A bus starts with uniform acceleration of 0.1 m/sec for 2 minutes. What is the distance travelled during this time? 720 m s=ut+½at²; here u=0, a=0.1 m/sec, t=120 sec. Solving this we get s=720 m 13 The gravitational constant at moon is 1/6th of that of the earth. What will be the mass of the object which is 60 Kg at earth? 10 Kg The mass of the object remains constant and is not affected due to gravitational constant. Had it been written that a measurement at spring balance shows some reading and how much will it be on moon, then it will 1/6th. Even if it is measured on earth in physical balance, it will not change on moon because, the force of attraction will remain same on both the sides. Example below will explain it more clearly: 14 This is not a vector work Work has only magnitude and no direction. It is a dot product of Force and Distance and the result is a scaler quantity. 15 A 10 meter high tank is being filled with water from another big tank just installed above it. What happens to the rate of flow of water with increasing level of water in 10 meter tank? reduces With the water being filled, the height of fall reduces and the flow rate will reduce. 16 Which law applicable for light is followed for sound waves as well? Reflection 17 HIV virus when active in human body attacks immune system of the body 18 How many kingdoms the living organism are divided? 5 Living organism are divided in 5 kingdoms called Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia 19 In which part of the earth environment, hole in the ozone layer has been discovered? Antarctica 20 In Nitrogen fixing cycle, how are the nitrates and nitrites are converted back to Nitrogen? bacterial disintegration A different type of bacteria converts the nitrates and nitrites into elemental nitrogen. Thus, there is a nitrogen-cycle in nature in which nitrogen passes from its elemental form in the atmosphere into simple molecules in the soil and water, which get converted to more complex molecules. in living beings and back again to the simple nitrogen molecule in the atmosphere. -
