The Answer Key:
Sl No. Question Answer Remark 1 A spring balance deflection at 0, 1, 2, 3 kg is found be 0,20,40 and 60 mm at 20 degree centigrade but changes to 5, 27, 49 and 71 at 30 degree centigrade undergoing a zero and sensitivity drift. Calculate the Zero and sensitivity drift of the balance. 0.5 and 0.2 Zero drift is zero error and sensitivity drift measures the effect of temperature on the overall readings. Zero reading changes by 5 mm and persistent for all readings and therefore zero drift is 5/10=0.5 mm/°C. Other readings are affected due to zero as well as sensitivity and by subtracting zero drift from all the readings we get a sensitivity drift of 2 mm and therefore sensitivity drift is 2/10 or 0.2 mm/°C. 2 Unit of luminous intensity is Candela Luminous is a fundamental unit defines the lumen output per unit sterdian and its unit is candela. 3 The device used for measurement of time in present period is Quartz Crystal Quartz is the only crystal which exhibits the property of converting electrical signal to resonate at a defined frequency 4 Pressure at higher altitude reduces due to reduced height of air column above The height of the column above reduces as compared to plain thus the weight of the air and thus weight per unit area. 5 Measurement of dissipation factor is employed to find the condition of Cables Dissipation factor is also called measurement of Tanδ. When there is no loss through resistance, the current through the capacitance is in 90 degree phase but due to some loss, it is slightly out of phase. Measurement of this angle helps in indentifying the health of cables. 6 What measurement technique is followed for the measurement of very low value of vacuum of the order of 10⁻⁶ Pirani gauge 7 The working principle of Pirani Vacuum Gauge is Principle of Thermal Conductivity 2nd is called Mcleod, 3rd is capacitive change and 4th is ionisation method. 8 Shaft encoders are used to measure the angular position of shaft It is a electro-mechanical device that converts the angular position or motion of a shaft into analogue or digital signal for many application in instrumentation and machinery. 9 Reed meters are used for the measurement of Supply Frequency Reed frequency meters works on the principle of fitting many reeds of frequency difference of 0.5 Hz and checking the reed which vibrates most to find out the frequency. -
